Racing Point will have upgrades coming "thick and fast" following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, according to its technical director Andrew Green.
The newly named team has struggled to keep up at the front of the midfield so far in 2019, an area that it is has been strong in over the last number of years.
So far this season, it has picked up 7 points and has made one Q3 appearance, with Sergio Perez making it through to the final stage in Australia.
The team was aware at pre-season testing that a lack of parts would mean a difficult start to the season, however it is expecting a number of upgrades to be installed in the coming weeks.
"The updates that we've put on, we're getting closer to optimising them," Green told Autosport. "The Bahrain test helped us a lot to understand where the sweet spot of the car is.
"Baku has always been strong for us, and hopefully it will be strong again this year. We'll just have a Baku specific downforce kit. And then we've got updates coming thick and fast after that. Spain is where things start to happen.
"We're still a long way off where we want to be, that's for sure, and it takes time to build the team up to challenge where we want to be challenging, while other teams have made big steps.
"We've been cash-strapped for many years. It's going to take time to build up the team and move it forward. We've just got to be patient."
Perez picked up the team's best result of the year last weekend in China, crossing in the line in eighth place after starting from outside the top ten.
Teammate Lance Stroll bagged a point for his new team at the season-opener in Australia but has struggled so far in qualifying, dropping out of Q1 at every race so far this season.
"He's been really unlucky," Green stated. "He was unlucky in Australia, he was blocked in qualifying.
"I think with hindsight we would probably have done the strategy slightly differently [in China], because he had another great start.
"But we didn't really know what would have happened if we'd gone the other way. But I think he deserved to score a point. The potential is there, and it will come through.

Well, the upgrades will come, which is nice, but one could say that Racing Point's naming division wasn't quite... uhuhuh.. On Point... uhuhu...
