Miami to take a vote on 2019 Grand Prix plans

Miami will soon take a vote on whether or not it will proceed with plans to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2019. Miami has long been rumoured to make an appearance on the F1 calendar, with F1's owners Liberty Media looking to add a second race in the United States.

The US Grand Prix is already held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. It made its debut in 2012 and has formed itself into a fan favourite. Now, the City of Miami Commission has added a race in its city to its agenda, with a vote to take place soon.

“Earlier today the City of Miami Commission took an important step by adding an item to their upcoming agenda, that if approved, will make way to bring Formula 1 to downtown Miami next season," said F1's managing director commercial operations Sean Bratches. " We appreciate the community’s interest in hosting a Formula 1 race and look forward to working with local officials and stakeholders to bring this vision to life.

"With over half a billion fans worldwide, Formula 1 is the greatest racing spectacle on the planet, and Miami’s status as one of the world’s most iconic and glamourous cities, combined with its robust tourism infrastructure, makes Miami the perfect destination for Formula 1 and its fans."

Another street circuit?? I'm glad we're getting another US race but come on! Let's get more full time tracks going!

Miami would be a perfect venue. Street circuit? Well, most others have not been great, but there's also Baku. I am certain they could create an interesting layout.

  Baku is the worst track in F1, more like an Indy Car venue, too narrow with walls and fences all around. If the U.S. wants another race let them use Watkins Glen or Laguna Seca to name two real race tracks.

I honestly would prefer an actual track, and maybe in another country? The U.S do already have one GP. But I guess countries with big F1 fanbases like Argentina, my prime candidate aside from a Scandinavian GP, doesnt have the funds to host a GP.

  I think everyone agrees that actual tracks are better. The challenge is that the race on Sunday it's only part of what happens over the weekend. It needs to be a grand event. Turkey had an incredible track, but as an event, it was a dire affair. Poor attendance. India had a great track, but too many other issues with politics that made the event unsustainable. Bahrain was going down the same road, but they had the brilliant idea of turning it into a night race, and they also lucked into having some incredible races recently.
  
  Baku and Singapore are definitely not great circuits, but have provided great races/events. I'd love to see a race in Argentina, or anywhere else in Europe too. But I fear that Argentina would turn into another India (politics, corruption, population that can't afford to attend) and Scandinavia would be severely hampered by the typical bullshit we get in first world countries, people protesting noise, pollution, lack of women, fund allocated to the GP instead of funding education, environmental protection etc.

  I agree about Turkey, India, Bahrain and Baku, but disagree about Singapore. Its a pretty unique circuit, being one of the most low speed corner intense circuits on the calendar, and as you say it tends to provide us with good races. I agree about Argentina though.
  
  Money being reallocated from more important stuff wouldnt be a problem up here. Remember, our govs does not want to be the main source of money for the GPs, it'd have to be a private host, and plenty of those have the funds, but none of them are very interested. Noise concerns could be avoided as long as its held on tracks. We have a few of those that could be made F1 ready. The rest is the way things are, but I dont think people would really mind. After all, if used correctly F1 is great fos business.
