Piquet on Alonso: "There's a mess wherever he is"

Nelson Piquet has hit out at double world champion Fernando Alonso, claiming that no matter which team the Spaniard drives for, there is always a mess there. Piquet also believes that Alonso only has himself to blame for the lack of success in the past decade.

Alonso won two consecutive titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006, before a turbulent year at McLaren. After a further two seasons at Renault, the Spaniard joined Ferrari in a bid for more success but conceded defeat on most occasions to Sebastian Vettel.

"Fernando Alonso has had the chance to win up to five world championships, but the reality is that there is always a mess wherever he is," said triple world champion Piquet.

While admitting that Alonso is a terrific driver, he thinks he is very poor politically: "He is a fantastic driver, but also one who generates a lot of problems and in the end everyone ends up leaving the team," the Brazilian, whose son Nelson Jr was Alonso's teammate in 2008, told La Sexta broadcaster.

"He is very bad politically in his work on the team. When you arrive on a team, at first you must be patient and work together, and later you win," Piquet added. "But he always wants the best (straight away), and that is not the best way."

A very bitter man is Mr Piquet, you only need to read some of the disgusting things he's said about Prost, Senna, Mansell etc over the years. The guy has no class and even though he's a 3x wdc, nobody really cares what he has to say.

    • No that's his son. Nelson Piquet sr. has won more world titles than Fernando Alonso. It's also mentioned in the article. It sometimes pays to read the whole thing first.

Kinda agree with Nelson. Would not have him in my team either. Way to much trouble. But only if you have access to quality drivers otherwise you would have to take him on performance allone like McLaren did.

Piquet Snr was no angel. This is an example of the pot calling th kettle black. He needs to shut it.

That being said, he is right about Alonso's political instincts. They suck LOL !!!

Completely agree, Nelson clearly doesn’t get the hypocrisy of his statements. Although it is said that Mansell was a bit of an a**e at times, it says much for his tenacity that he was able to overcome Picquet with all his shenanigans at Williams.
