Alonso not ruling out 2018 IndyCar switch

Fernando Alonso says that he is not ruling out the possibility of a full-time switch to IndyCar in 2018. The Spaniard competed in his first race in the series in May, contesting the Indy 500. While in a bid for victory, his Honda engine tragically gave up and he retired from the race.

The two-time world champion has been left highly frustrated in the last number of years with McLaren-Honda, having been given an unreliable and slow car. Since Ferrari and Mercedes state they are not interested in signing the 36-year-old next year, he says IndyCar is still a possibility.

"Let's see in a month or so," he said . "I've always said I'm very open to what may come in the future. I want to win next year and to win we need some good changes here (at McLaren). Many changes. If those happen, it is possible I stay but it's something I will consider in September."

In Hungary, Alonso is bidding for his best finish of the year. The Hungaroring is not a power sensitive track, meaning a top ten finish inside a rapid McLaren chassis is on the cards for the 36-year-old, who has only finished inside the points once this season.
