Hamilton hints at retirement at the end of 2017

Lewis Hamilton admits that he does not know what frame of mind he will be at the end of the season, hinting that he may yet quit the sport. The Brit starred at his home Grand Prix last weekend, taking victory in front of his fans.

While Hamilton claims that he is driving as well as he ever has, Hamilton also stated that it is impossible for him to say how he will feel in six months time. Last November, there was a shock when Hamilton's former teammate Nico Rosberg retired from the sport after winning the world championship.

When asked if he would follow in Rosberg's footsteps, Hamilton said: "I can't really say what's going to happen six months from now, except to say I am loving racing. I don't know what is going to happen.

"When you set a goal and succeed and have this belief inside of you, it is such a great feeling," he said. "I don't know why I drive as I do, I just feel blessed that I do. The happiest I am, except when I am with my family, is when I have the car on a knife edge.

"I love driving and you could say it's unlikely, but you can't say what frame of mind I will be in at Christmas. Hopefully, it will be really good. Even getting another championship, it won't be a case of hanging up my gloves. I will always want to get more, even when I do stop. Right now I'm just focused on getting that fourth.

"I am loving racing," he insisted, "and I am driving better than I have ever driven. I have said that in the past, perhaps with less conviction, but within myself I know that right now I am at my best and I want to stay there."

What on earth is wrong with someone thinking he is at his own best? Jeez.

You´d never hear something like that from a Jenson Button, Mika Hakkinen, Michael Schumacher, Seb Vettel, Nico Rosberg, etc.

I think he is overshooting the target.. - again concerning his person.. This kind of babble shows his character again..

      Krommenaas:

Nothing, as you said. But there is a small difference in "thinking" and "publicly saying"..

  • If he loses, I think he may take a year out and come back........... I think he's burned out and I saw him making a video on his own phone at the British GP which didn't go on Instagram and that's a sign he knows it could be his last.
