Bottas believes Ferrari has "the upper hand"

Valtteri Bottas thinks that Ferrari is just quicker on pure pace this weekend in Monaco, as the Maranello outfit claimed their second one-two of the season. Bottas will start in P3, behind the Ferrari's of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel.

It was rumoured that Mercedes' longer wheelbase would harm them in Monaco, but in the first practice session, the Brackley-based team were on top. However, from FP2 onwards, they struggled to match the Ferrari's at the front.

"I think this weekend has been a bit tricky for us. We started well in practice one, but got a little bit lost with the set-up in practice two, so we definitely lost some valuable practice time. We got things more or less together in practice three, and in qualifying the car was feeling the best it has so far this weekend.

"It was still a bit tricky in places and quite difficult to get a lap together. I think Lewis also struggled with that and had some traffic in Q2. I think Ferrari, in general, has had the upper hand. Their car is a bit more driveable, they were quicker today, and well done to Kimi for the pole."

Due to Williams' poor form around Monaco, Bottas had never before qualified in Q3 before around the famous streets. Despite believing that Ferrari is quicker, he isn't ruling anything out:  "Tomorrow is the race and this is one of the places where anything can happen."

  • Looks like it. I think Mercedes will have a nightmare in Singapore, that track is about as unfriendly to them as I am to maths with letters instead of numbers.
