Vettel "a bit too greedy" in Monaco qualifying

Sebastian Vettel has claimed he was "a bit too greedy" when pushing around the streets of Monte Carlo during qualifying on Saturday afternoon. He missed out on pole position and will line up second for the race, alongside his Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen.

Vettel began his weekend well, topping practice sessions on both Thursday and Saturday morning. His form dipped during qualifying, however, and Q3 saw him make mistakes on both of his runs, costing him the top spot on the grid. He later reflected that this was because he was pushing too hard: "I think the car was fine today, it was really nice to drive.

"I pushed a little bit too hard on the first lap in Q3, I went wide at Turn 5, then on my second attempt in the second sector I was probably a bit too greedy, wanting a bit too much. I lost a little bit the car, but I'm sure if you ask anyone after quali, we all feel there's more."

Vettel's title rival Lewis Hamilton failed to make the final part of qualifying, having been forced to slow by yellow flags following an accident for Stoffel Vandoorne's McLaren. He will line up thirteenth, but Vettel is unconcerned about the impact of this on the Briton: "I don't really care about that, I think we were both fighting for the best spot for tomorrow," he said.
