Verstappen laying hopes on a wet Grand Prix

Max Verstappen will be hoping for a wet Chinese Grand Prix tomorrow as he looks to pull himself from the back row of the grid. The Dutchman suffered motor issues which left him unable to set a lap time and ultimately in P19.

The team attempted to fix his problem, however not much could be done and he languishes down on the back row of the grid. Rain is forecast for the race tomorrow which will please Verstappen who showed his abilities in the wet last year in Brazil.

"We had problems straight away – no power," said Verstappen. "We're still investigating. It's not what we want, of course. It should be better if it's raining. We are not that competitive compared to Mercedes and Ferrari, but I will give it my best to move forward and overtake people. I just want to enjoy driving and pass some people."

His teammate Daniel Ricciardo will start the race from fifth on the grid and admits that it was all he could have done, as Red Bull have clearly fallen behind Mercedes and Ferrari over the winter.

"There's more to be happy about today," said Ricciardo. "I don't feel we could have done better than fifth. I couldn't have done much more. You look at the gap to the leaders and it's still bigger than I expected, but our car didn't feel too bad, I guess it's just some pure performance things we need to gain. It's as close as we can get to the front right now."
