Nico Hulkenberg has admitted that 2017 could be another tough year for Renault.

The German is is joining the team next season, leaving Force India who finished an impressive fourth this year as opposed to ninth for Renault.

"I think next year is still a build-up year," Hulkenberg is quoted by the Daily Express.

"I hope that next year it is a little bit better already, but I don't expect them to be inside the top six straight away. Even the top ten is probably going to be challenging," he added.

2017 aside, Hulkenberg is positive over Renault's long-term future.

"These things take time, to build the infrastructure back up, get good people on board and develop the car," he said.

  • ...Yeah it's not like it has been the story of his F1 life so far... oh wait.

A bit like Alonso's movement choices after Renault days...

    True story.

  • Next year is bound to be better, since Renault will feature a car they designed around their power unit. I doubt they will catch Toro Rosso, but seeing as they'll have the same unit TR should be Renault's target.
