Pierre Gasly still aiming for 2017 F1 seat

Pierre Gasly is still looking to get onto the Formula One grid in 2017.

Gasly's inconsistent form and Daniil Kvyat's recent rise in fortunes has seen the Frenchman's hopes of a Toro Rosso seat next year take a hit.

But the Red Bull-backed driver has insisted that title glory in GP2 would not be a guarantee of an F1 promotion.

"It has never been that I have to win GP2 to go into F1, but it's always been the goal," Gasly told the publication FranceF1. "For now, we will see how the season ends."

"It's still a bit too early. We will talk with Helmut Marko and Red Bull and try to see what is best for my future," he added.

Gasly also revealed that his contract with the energy drink giants runs for a number of years.

"My contract still runs for several years with Red Bull - it does not end at the end of the season," he said
