Pirelli's slick tyre test in Barcelona this week was effected by rain.
Mercedes managed just a combined 91 laps over both days, with Pascal Wehrlein, subbing for Lewis Hamilton, spent using intermediate tyres.
The ruined test has brought further calls to conduct a test in a warm, dry climate next year.
"Obviously the weather hindered progress to some extent, both today and yesterday, as is not entirely unexpected at this time of year in Europe," Pirelli's Paul Hembery is quoted by Autosport.
"The same can apply to the early part of next year, which is why we are in favour of some guaranteed warm-weather testing in 2017, before the season gets underway,"he added.
Mercedes have been one of the teams calling for a 2017 pre-season test to take place in Bahrain, while the likes of Williams and Red Bull are adamant that testing should remain in Europe.
