Sebastian Vettel said he is not impressed with Pirelli's new 2017 tyres.
Vettel has been assisting with the testing of the new tyres, driving a test mule based on Ferrari's 2015 car, but he said the wider profile of the tyres isn't offering more grip
"The (2017) tyre, in terms of grip, is quite similar to what we have now," the German said.
However, he did admit that the car used in the test, a modified SF15-T, was not ideal for the situation.
"[The grip is] Probably a little better, but I think also the cars we are using are not entirely appropriate to reflect the conditions for 2017," he is quoted by Spain's Marca.
Early indications show that next year's car will have much more downforce, and tyre manufacturer Pirelli has said that the modified cars supplied by Ferrari,a s well ass Mercedes and Red Bull, are not a true representation of next year's machines.
Vettel meanwhile, is hoping for improvements when he next tests the tyres in Abu Dhabi at the end of November.
"I think Pirelli is still in the early days and there are still a lot of changes to be made," he said, "so I'm very interested in seeing what there is in Abu Dhabi, which I think is probably the closest to what we will have next year."
