The reports also claim that Mercedes then managed to convince Serra to stay, with McLaren now taking legal action over Mercedes for a breach of contract.
Mercedes are currently refusing to comment on the matter but team boss Toto Wolff insists that Serra is still at Mercedes. A McLaren spokesman meanwhile said: "The matter is the subject of legal proceedings."
"We will not comment until the process is complete," the spokesman said.
