Sebastian Vettel: "We were a lot faster"

Sebastian Vettel belives that Ferrari were quicker than Red Bull in the Hungarian Grand Prix, despite the fact that Daniel Ricciardo beat Vettel to the podium.

Both Ferraris were involved in close battles with the Red Bulls, with the Red Bulls prevailing in each tussle, but Vettel insists that the on track action doesn't give the full picture.

"We were a lot faster, but it's Hungary, where you need to be not just a lot faster," he said. "I think we probably had half a second to a second in hand at the end, as he was starting to drop off and doing small mistakes, but it was not enough to get past."

"We had a fresher set [of tyres]. It was an early stop for him, to go on his final set. We knew we would come back at the end, and as I said we were faster," he added. "I think the car was fine. In terms of pace we're not matching the Mercedes, as they seem to be in a league of their own, but we were right behind [with Red Bull].

"We had the pace to go on the podium, but it's clear that if you are ahead you can be fairly aggressive, which Red Bull was, and there was no way to get past."

  • This talk is BS, they are slow and they have been beaten by RBR in the development race, Ferrari are now the prancing donkeys. It doesn't matter if you were quick in one phase of the race on a certain tyre, it just shows the huge weakness of the car's balance. Ferrari might as well throw in the towel and try and do something about their balance issues for 2017.

2016 is over, get over it.
