Robert Kubica's return to F1 next year is now set in stone. That is the claim of the broadcaster RTL GP, echoing other sources including France's Canal Plus that claim the Pole has now inked a Williams contract for 2018.

RTL GP says the 32-year-old's contract is for 2018 and 2019. Former F1 driver Robert Doornbos, who is a pundit for F1 broadcaster Ziggo Sport Totaal, told the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad: "I am happy to see Kubica back in F1." (GMM)

Williams have not confirmed this. They are denying the rumors, and claim that nothing has been signed yet.

  • It is not true, let's wait for Williams official statement. At this point Williams called it as a hoax like all news regarding Robert's contract.

Why do media print this fake stuff? Just to get extra readers for a single day? Doesn’t make sense. Could it be members of Roberts fan club trying apply pressure? I’m not at all sure Robert would approve in the slightest.

  • I'm from Poland. Believe me our media are full of shit stories with Robert. We all are very tired of that. There's no news from Robert himself so we are just waiting. But media are publishing shit every single day...

It's early yet. Read Jenson Button's account of his signing with Williams (in his new autobiography) to see how long Williams may take to make up their minds.

  • Might want to add something like "Rumor" to headers like these. I wouldnt necessarily call it "fake news", but be careful with how firmly you phrase whats currently nothing but gossip.

  • Sirotkin will drive together with Kubica at Abu Dhabi tests. I think they can hire both of them. One can drive the race and another one practice 1. They could get money from both of them and replace one with another when bad results might happen. That would be wise.

Neither good enough for F1. Williams needs to up its game. F1 needs to distribute revenue more evenly (like Premier League) so Williams are not forced to take pay drivers over talent.
