Sebastian Vettel has enforced that increasing the weight of the cars for the 2021 season is the wrong direction for the sport.
As part of the 2021 regulations shake-up to allow the cars to fight closer on the track, the minimum weight limit has also been raised to 768 kg - a 25 kg increase from the current requirements.
Vettel says that only time will tell if the new regulations will work and meet the objectives that were set out by all of the parties involved in the discussions.
"None of the decisions is in our hands, other people have other interest. We pointed out our main objectives, how much of them we will achieve we will see when we get to drive the cars for the first time.
"We'll find out how much slower they are, how much scope there is in the regulations, how much freedom the teams will have and so on.
"It's not entirely fair now to judge it as good or bad. We need to wait a little bit.
"But certainly, going up in weight is the wrong direction. That's the collective opinion of the drivers, that's my opinion.
"The cars are already very heavy and for 2021, they will get even heavier. So we will see."
Vettel described the current knowledge of the regulations as a "fancy picture" online, and believes that there will be a clearer understanding in time of the new shape of the sport.
"We're focusing on the job this year but next year we'll [Ferrari] have high ambitions to have a proper fight for wins and ultimately the championship.
"By that time we will have a much more concrete idea of the 2021 [regulations] rather than just a fancy picture somewhere online."
