Ticktum to join Super Formula in 2019

Red Bull junior driver Dan Ticktum will race in Super Formula in 2019, following in the footsteps of Perre Gasly, who ventured to the Japanese series before making the move into Formula 1 with Toro Rosso.

Ticktum confirmed a number of weeks ago that he was very close to a deal with Super Formula, while also confirming that it was very unlikely that he would be racing a full-season of Formula 2 after making his debut with Arden in Abu Dhabi last month.

Red Bull also announced that Lucas Auer has joined its junior team. At 24 years of age, the Austrian will also compete in Super Formula after a four-year stint in Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM). Auer will drive for  B-Max Racing, while Ticktum links up with Team Mugen.

Juri Vips and Yuki Tsunoda who only very recently were announced on the Red Bull junior roster will both race in the new Formula 3 championship that replaces GP3. Vips will race with Hitech, while Tsunoda receives his outings with Jenzer Motorsport.

Tsunoda will also compete in the European Formula Masters, a new series that replaces the old FIA European Formula 3 championship. Red Bull will announce its plans for its other junior drivers (Jack Doohan, Dennis Hauger, Jonny Edgar and Harry Thompson) “in the coming weeks."

Let's see if this little hot-head can deal with the culture over there. Perhaps it will be good for him.

  • I am conflicted. I want him to do well because it would be a great story of a comeback. In the other hand Ticktum does not seem to have learned completely from his ban. I hated the comments he made about Mick Schumacher. But hell, if he's fast, I'll want him to move up the ranks regardless.
