Sirotkin, Magnussen reprimanded after qualifying

Sergey Sirotkin and Kevin Magnussen have both received reprimands in Brazil after the stewards deemed the pair drove too slowly on their in-laps during qualifying. Both were called to the stewards after the session, with Sirotkin being the first to make his case.

The stewards acknowledged that Sirotkin did not drive in an unsafe manner, but noted that the Russian exceeded the delta time, which for the "majority of the time was due to a set-up error.” Sirotkin ended the session in P15 but is set to line up one place higher due to Esteban Ocon'sgrid penalty.

While the reprimand was Sirotkin's first of the year, Magnussen is one reprimand away from receiving a 10-place grid penalty. He too was deemed guilty of driving too slowly as he returned to the pitlane, despite making way for faster drivers behind and attempting to safely navigate the tricky conditions.

"The Stewards closely examined the driver's in-lap and found that Car 20 took particular care not to impede other drivers. The driver also noted that he was concerned with the rain in the circumstances," a statement ready on Saturday evening.

“However, the Stewards noted that other drivers were setting representative times at this moment, and that the delta time is based on 145% of a representative lap. Therefore the Stewards found that a breach was committed, but took into account the drivers concern about rain and imposed a reprimand.”
