Hartley warns Alonso about tiring WEC campaign

Brendon Hartley says that Fernando Alonso can expect to feel tired following his World Endurance Championship campaign with Toyota. The Spaniard joins the Japanese squad for the upcoming WEC season, which includes the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

Alonso will run the schedule side-by-side with his Formula 1 duties, which will mean plenty of consecutive weekends racing. Towards the end of the 2017 season, Hartley was called up to Toro Rosso, while he completed the WEC season with Porsche.

Hartley says that it will be an exciting but tiring experience for Alonso: "It will be something different for him," the New Zealander told Spain's El Mundo Deportivo. "I did a similar thing to him at the end of last year. It's exciting but he'll be pretty tired when everything's over.

"I don't know how many consecutive weeks he has, but I would say that Le Mans is a very exhausting race. It's not just a weekend, it's a full week, there's a lot of preparation, very short nights. But I think he'll love it," Hartley added.

  • WEC sure... very tiring sport. It's called endurance for a reason. But F1? Yes the preparation is extensive, the training... but the event itself it's a breeze compared to other sports. You see guys get out of the car running, jumping, looking fresh. You are not likely to see that very often after a soccer match, or an NBA game. In short, I think Alonso will be just fine.
