Ricciardo hoping to bring a fight to Ferrari

Daniel Ricciardo believes that fighting Ferrari in the Bahrain Grand Prix is not impossible. The Australian will line-up in fourth place for the start of the race, alongside Valtteri Bottas and behind the Ferrari duo of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.

Following Australia, Red Bull admitted that its qualifying pace was behind Ferrari and Mercedes, but was confident that it could challenge them in the race. With the start always being crucial, Red Bull's team principal Christian Horner said that Ricciardo will be ready to pounce into the first couple of corners.

"This track - forget Melbourne, you couldn't overtake there - but this track you can and it is one of the easiest venues that you can make a pass on," Horner said. "So you will have Lewis [Hamilton] doing his thing and I think we have a really good race car and Daniel Ricciardo is starting on the second row so I think he will be looking to take opportunities on the first lap.

"More [pit-stops] than Melbourne, yes, some you might do but some try the one stop. The two stop looks attractive as well but the one stop is fraught with the risk of safety cars and the rest. Maybe with Lewis that is what they have teed up starting on that harder tyre."

And speaking after Saturday's qualifying session, the Australian was confident that he could make something happen in the race: "Hopeful, yeah. It's not a long shot, I think it's within reach so looking forward to that."

"Practice and qualifying are ok but Sunday is my favourite day of the week. On Saturday, our race pace didn’t look bad but I think our car in FP2 wasn’t as good as it is now, so it’s encouraging to know that our car should be even better tomorrow and hopefully it puts us in the fight."
