Kevin Magnussen could race Daytona in 2019

Kevin Magnussen looks set to be the next driver to expand his horizons beyond the F1 paddock. According to BT newspaper, the Dane came very close to joining Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll this year at Daytona.

"We were quite far advanced with the plans but in the end we just ran out of time," said Gary Nelson, of the Action Express team. "There were many loose ends: we have our partners, Haas has theirs and Kevin has his. It had to all fit together and it was simply not possible this year.

"We don't yet know ours or Kevin's plans for 2019, but we really want to have him in our car," Nelson admitted. (GMM)

Wasn't there quite a lot of criticism from the drivers when they increased from 20 to 21 races? Now they want to drive elsewhere as well.

  I think Kevin would be happy with 25 races pr. year LOL. He been racing since he was 2 years old..Some great videos on youtube:)

  That criticism came from Alonso, incredibly. He even said he'd quit F1 if it were to get 25 races.

  Unlikely. They wont care much about who's running the show as long as it doesnt impact them. And if they already draw conclusions, they jump ship long before its taken off.

Shouldnt he focus on F1 first? I mean, he had a decent season in 2017, but he should aim at being more than decent before looking at other series.

  There's no reason, trying to spread his talent on more series than F1.
  Work on geeting more established, before trying other types of racing.

  I think you're assuming that racing in multiple series is detrimental to his F1 performances. Quite frankly I don't know how exhausting the F1 driver life is... however, guys like Lewis Hamilton seem to be able to fool around the world in between race weekends and manage to perform at top level. Whatever the case, I am beyond delighted to see Formula 1 drivers in other categories. I definitely gets me more interested in looking at racing beyond F1.

  Not necessarily, but in some cases I think it could. Hamilton can afford not putting 100% into F1. Alonso can afford mot putting 100% into F1. Chances are it doesnt impact their F1 performances, or even boost it. And it doesnt make them less attractive on the market either. I dont think K-Mag, who is good at best, can afford taking that kind of risk.

It's mainly because he'd like to race on with his dad at a big event. I'd expect it to be a one off.

I think much of the criticism came from team managers more than drivers with the amount of travelling and time away from home for engineers, mechanics, etc.
