Lucas Auer has played down his chances of claiming a seat in Formula 1 next season, as he admits he is fully focused on the DTM championship. The 22-year-old will take part in F1's in-season test next week in Hungary, driving for Force India.
While a move to F1 is unlikely, Auer hasn't ruled it out for the future but wants to solely focus on the DTM championship for the next couple of years. With the 2017 just past the halfway point, the Austrian is third in the standings, 14 points behind leader Mattias Ekström.
"At the moment I do not think of formula one as my goal because I am entirely focused on DTM," Auer said. "In DTM you need to spend three of four years to be ready for the title, so I will be happy to stay with Mercedes for next season even if at the moment I have no clarity about where I will be. Let's see if there are options and what they are."
