Pascal Wehrlein will start the Austrian Grand Prix from the pitlane, the German has confirmed. Wehrlein dropped out of Q1 in yesterday's session, failing to get ahead of teammate Marcus Ericsson. While he was scheduled to start at the back of the grid, he will now take to the pitlane.
"Unfortunately, there was not much more that could be done during qualifying," he said. "After Friday practice, today I continued to have power unit issues, and that made me lose pace, especially on the straights. As usual, I will do my best during the race tomorrow. The weather could also play a defining role at this GP."
Starting from the pitlane can sometimes be a blessing as it may keep Wehrlein out of any first lap carnage. The Red Bull Ring will serve up some happy memories for the 22-year-old, as he bagged his first career points at the track last season.
