Valtteri Bottas claimed his second pole position of his career in Austria today, beating the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel to the top by less than half a tenth of a second. Bottas last sat on pole in Bahrain of this season, where he failed to convert it into a win due to a tyre pressure issue.
His fastest time, a 1:04.251 is the shortest lap time speed Formula 1 will see all year. After the field was forced to abandon their fastest laps due to the Haas of Romain Grosjean stopping on track, Bottas' position at the top of the classifications was sealed.

"We definitely got the car really nice and stable for qualifying," said Bottas. "I was just able to build up the confidence, and this is a track where you need it in high speed corners. On [the] balance, we didn't really touch the car at all during qualifying, and the laps were getting better and better as a result. So as team we have done a great job over the weekend to get the car better and it felt good today."
Along with one pole position, the Finn has one race win which came earlier this season in Russia. The target for him tomorrow is to add another to his tally but knows that he will have a tough fight with the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel close behind.
"It should be an interesting and good fight tomorrow," he stated. "The target is not less than winning of course; I'm sure Lewis still has a good race ahead, there's a lot of time to come back and get good points for us as a team, so I can't wait for tomorrow."
