Mercedes take full blame for Hamilton's loose headrest

Mercedes has taken full blame for the incident regarding Lewis Hamilton's headrest during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. On lap 29 of the race, it was noticed that the headrest was loose on the Silver Arrow, forcing the Brit who was leading the race into a pit-stop.

As the red flag period drew to a close and the race prepared to resume on lap 22, Hamilton climbed back into his car while his crew serviced the car, with one applying the headrest. However, it was not secured properly but team boss Toto Wolff has refused to blame a sole individual: "This team has won three world championships and I will not point the finger at a single person," he said.

The team has since looked into what the problem was, with Niki Lauda stating they will come up with a re-design to make sure it doesn't happen again: "The pins that attach the headrest did not click into the socket. This was worsened by the heavy load caused by the air at high speed. We will do a redesign so that this does not happen again. This should have been an easy win for us," Lauda added.
