Vettel feeds speculation surrounding his future

Sebastian Vettel could be on the verge of signing a new contract with Ferrari after stating that he is happy at the team. Vettel joined Ferrari in 2015 after a lengthy stint within the Red Bull programme. Since then, he has taken six victories for the Maranello outfit.

The first two years of the Vettel-Ferrari partnership didn't go swimmingly, with Ferrari failing to produce a highly competitive car and Vettel appearing very frustrated over the radio on many occasions.

Amid the new 2017 regulations however, Ferrari has come storming out of the blocks, taking three victories in the first seven races so far. With his current deal expiring at the end of this season, Vettel says that there will be no surprises over his 2018 drive, suggesting he is set to re-sign with the Prancing Horses.

"I have nothing to complain about," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Usually Germans always complain, even when they're on holiday in Italy and the food and atmosphere are fantastic. But in this sense, I am not very German. I am happy with Ferrari. There is nothing that speaks against it. I think there will be no surprises but there is also no rush."

But when asked what the holdup is, Vettel answered: "It's not that we are waiting, I think the daily business is simply more important at the moment. It is nice if the president is behind me, but it's not something we have to do now in the next few days. This also affects our team boss Maurizio Arrivabene and myself as well, and at the moment we have our hands full and it's not the first thing on the list."
