Trulli doubts Hamilton will retire after 2017

Former F1 driver Jarno Trulli has entered the debate surrounding Lewis Hamilton's potential retirement at the end of the season, stating that he does not believe the speculation as Hamilton appears to be devoted to the racetrack.

"I don't know why Hamilton says certain things," the Italian said to La Repubblica. "But as he is a racing animal, I think he can race until he's 40, unlike Rosberg where you could see that the racetrack was not his only reason for living."

Hamilton's own comments in Baku seemed to agree with this statement: when asked if he saw himself continuing in F1, his answer was immediate. "Easily. I could easily do another three-year contract if I wanted to. I reckon I could go another one after that.

"When I think about Juan Manuel Fangio, five championships sounds pretty good," he added, when considering whether he could increase his title haul. "But then Vettel's only one away from five so if I get five he could easily equal that and then you've got to six.

"People ask me what's motivating me and I still want more. I feel like I have more potential and it's a constant journey to discover what that potential is. There's no real limit to what we can achieve, it's a state of mind."

  • I think if Hamilton found himself with a car that is off the pace or starts having a wobble as he did in 2011 then I could easily see him being attracted to the bright lights of America, racing isn't his only passion in the way it is for Alonso or Vettel
