Lauda agrees 25 races too many for F1

Mercedes' Niki Lauda disagrees with Liberty Media's recent push to expand the calendar to 25 races a season. Liberty Media, who took over Formula 1 at the start of 2017, has made a number of changes surrounding a Grand Prix weekend.

Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have also criticised the motive, with Alonso saying he will actually quit the sport if it is confirmed. There have been a number of interests in recent months over venues, such as New York, Long Beach and Turkey.

"21 races is the maximum," the three-time world champion told Osterreich newspaper. "More would be nonsense, as F1 would become like the Ski world cup, where people are overloaded."

Meanwhile, Lauda rubbished Eddie Jordan's recent claim that Mercedes intends to quit F1 after the 2018 season. Asked how he responds to the former F1 team owner's comments, Lauda said: "It's best not to at all. But he doesn't know what he's saying."
