Verstappen: "It's best to try to make the most of the situation"

Red Bull's Max Verstappen is adamant that the team don't write off this year's car just yet. Red Bull are clearly behind Ferrari and Mercedes who are storming away at the top of the standings. The team are almost 100 points behind leaders Ferrari after just the first six rounds of the championship.

It's extra disappointing as 2017 was tipped to be the year that Red Bull bounced back from their hybrid era woes with the introduction of the new aerodynamic regulations. It was expected to play into their hands, but instead, they have seen Ferrari leap them and take the challenge to Mercedes.

"It is what it is and I can't influence the situation," said the Dutchman. "You can get upset, angry, but it doesn't solve anything. It's better to be optimistic and try to make the most of the situation. The regulations are not changing much, so the more the team learns this year, the better it is for next year."

After qualifying, Verstappen's teammate Daniel Ricciardo said: "As expected, they turned up the performance in the last qualifying segment. We just can't do that. I think that extra power would even be scary for us, but it would be a good problem to have."
