Vettel and Hamilton retain respect for eachother

Formula 1 title protagonists Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel say they have the utmost respect for each other as the start of season flutters begin to die down and we get into serious business.

Both men have seven world championships between each other and came as close as you can get in Spain. Vettel "pushed" Hamilton wide, according to the Brit but says it was hard racing, and the respect remains.

"I didn't say anything bad," Hamilton said. "I'm glad I was able to have a battle and didn't damage anything but there's nothing lost between us. The respect stays the same."

Ferrari's Vettel agrees: "Away from the track there is no reason not to get along with each other. You always have to respect when the others do a good job," he is quoted by DPA news agency. "The respect will remain."

Many fans of F1 have been calling for a battle between the two men for years. Despite having a monstrous seven titles between them, they have never had a close and intense battle with 2010 being the tightest we've seen them come.

Vettel currently leads the driver's standings, as he has done since the season opener in Melbourne. However, only 6 points separate them while it's just as close in the constructor standings as Mercedes lead Ferrari by just 8 points.
