Sainz focusing on future Red Bull drive

Carlos Sainz has admitted that his goal is to drive for Red Bull in the future, despite the energy drink outfit's apparent pleasure with current drivers Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo.

Sainz made his Formula 1 debut in 2015 for Toro Rosso, Red Bull's junior team. Now in his third year of competing, Sainz is eyeing a move further up the field for next season and is hoping for a promotion within the Red Bull programme.

"For me it's positive if they don't want to let me go because it means they consider me," Sainz told the Spanish newspaper Diario Sport, referring to his bosses Helmut Marko and Christian Horner. "I prefer not to talk about the future, but it's good to know that my bosses value me."

Sainz has impressed in his 44 Grand Prix starts so far, with a career best of sixth place coming in Spain, USA and Brazil in 2016. His name has been linked with Ferrari for next season, however, he would ideally prefer a move to Red Bull.

"Obviously I don't say much but I always think these things in my head and yes, I would love to one day be fighting for victories with a team like Red Bull," said Sainz. "That is my goal."

The latest rumour from Barcelona surrounding the ever spectacle driver market is that Daniel Ricciardo is top of Ferrari's list for a 2018 drive which would, in turn, open up a move for Sainz at Red Bull.
