Renault to introduce engine upgrade at Spanish GP

Renault have revealed that they will be bringing their first engine upgrade to the 2017 Spanish Grand Prix. In recent years it has become tradition that the French outfit brings its first upgrade at the start of the European season.

Last year the maiden engine upgrade was brought to Monaco, a week after Red Bull won their first race of the season. The team will race with Renault engines, however they will be re-branded to be called Tag Heuer, like in 2016.

"The signs are promising," said head of Red Bull driver development Helmut Marko. "The gap at Mercedes has been steadily reduced, we will be well positioned for the European part of the season. In terms of engines, I expect that we will be at Ferrari level, unless they make a giant leap. Mercedes is still a bit too high, but the gap is not so large that we don't have a chance."
