Renault looking to produce best 2018 engine

Compared to 2015, Renault made a huge step forward this year in engine development. The reliability of the engines was much better and also allowed the French engine manufacturer to take advantage of the engine and produce more power.

Renault have now set the target for 2018 to have the most powerful engine on the field.

Red Bull took no victories and received multiple grid penalties because of the constant changing of engines in 2015. The poor reliability and the shortage of capacity almost caused a rupture, but both sides decided to continue together.

Red Bull had a much more successful 2016: the racing team from Milton Keynes achieved a pole, two wins and fourteen podiums in 2016.

Managing director at Renault, Ciryl Abiteboul, does not hide the ambitions of Renault for the coming years.

"Our biggest milestone was the progress in engine power. We had an unreliable and weak engine, but this year we put out the most reliable engine on the field. In terms of power, we come short, but we have a clear plan. The plan to have the strongest engine in 2018. "

Renault announced in the closing stages of the season in 2016 that it will develop a completely new engine for 2017. In 2016, the French outfit began with a developed version of the 2015 specification.

hopefully the new 2017 is as reliable as their on-developed version of 2015..
As soon as Renault has got a good driveability and nearly the same power as Merc, the Red Bulls are going to dominate once more. I´m pretty sure about that.. We´ve seen this year that they´ll run in trouble if engines are running on the maximum (see Hamiltons issues because of bad starts and pledging through the field with maximum power available) so i think if Renault brings a good engine Red Bull will be very quick and a big threat to mercs dominance..

And i think Verstappen & Ricciardo are the best pair in the field since Rosberg has gone..
