Daniel Ricciardo has come out in support of the group of Australians arrested at the Malaysia Grand Prix.
Nine men, including a government advisor, were arrested for stripping to Malaysian flag-decorated underwear, while drinking from their shoes after Sunday's race.
Police branded to incident as "intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace" and now the group face jail time.
But Daniel Ricciardo has voiced his support of the men, insisting they were acting in the heat of the moment and weren't aware of the effect it would have on the locals.
"Obviously I'm aware of it, but at the time I wasn't," he said.
"At the time they thought it was a bit of harmless fun, and were enjoying the celebrations. It was a while since I won and they were excited. They didn't realise the effect it would have on the locals.
"It's a shame but they were in the moment," Ricciardo added.
