Niki Lauda has insisted that Mercedes' race drivers will undertake some 2017 tyre testing for Pirelli.
Germany's Auto Motor und Sport claims that Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg did not want to do any of the running, despite Pirelli requesting race drivers. Mercedes tester Pascal Wehrlein has done most of Mercedes' running so far.
Now Toto Wolff has revealed that he and fellow Mercedes boss Niki Lauda had pushed for Hamilton and Rosberg to get involved.
"A driver can always learn something, even if it might be limited in a tyre test. Honestly, Niki put more pressure on than me," Wolff said.
Lauda added that: "It is important that the regular drivers test."
"They are the fastest and can do a better job than a replacement driver to help Pirelli with this tyre development," he said
Red Bull's race drivers will also test the 2017 tyres later this month after Sebastien Buemi conducted their share of the running to date..
"Verstappen and Ricciardo will do the test in Abu Dhabi," the company's motorsport advisor Dr Helmut Marko confirmed.
