Schumacher update: "The helmet was split, there was a lot of blood"

New information has reached F1Today.net about Michael Schumacher's horrifying skiing accident that occurred in the French Alps in Meribel. The German hit a rock whilst travelling down the piste and was hospitalised with a severe brain haemorrhage which led to him being put into a medically-induced coma. He has most recently been reported as 'fighting for his life' and in a 'critical' condition.

Michael was reported to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, however a rescuer who arrived at the scene stated that it split upon impact; "When we came to the scene, his helmet was split. You could see a lot of blood."

Schumacher is currently situated in a hospital in Grenoble where medical staff are assessing him on an hour-by-hour basis and the next few hours may prove crucial to his outcome. His father, Rolf and brother, Ralf are by his bedside and his ex-manager Willi Weber is remaining optimistic about his recovery; "Michael is a fighter, he will get through this. We can only pray."

Various Formula 1 drivers and sports personalities are offering their well-wishes via Twitter, such as Lewis Hamilton, "Mine & my families prayers & thoughts are with Michael & his family. I wish him a quick recovery. God Bless him. The Hamiltons" and ex-Ferrari tester and F1 racer, Marc Gene, "I wish you a lot of fighting spirit, Schumi. My best wishes for you and your family. Get well soon. "

F1Today.net will be keeping you updated with anymore information that we receive.
