Alonso tops final practice

Fernando Alonso has topped the final practice for the Indianapolis 500, ahead of qualifying which kicks off later today.

Despite topping the charts, Alonso was one of only six drivers to take to the circuit during the session in an attempt to make up some data it lost on Wednesday and Thursday.

Alonso set 13 laps during the session, after missing out on Thursday running due to a heavy crash he suffered on Wednesday.

His best lap speed was a 228.065, while his fastest lap time was 0.1506 ahead of Jordan King in P2.

Kyle Kaiser and Patricio O'Ward, who both had major collisions with the wall this week, took to the track to salvage some mileage, with Kaiser clocking 32 laps.

The Juncos driver was third, behind King, who is aiming to make his first Indy 500 next weekend.

Rookie Ben Hanely was fourth, ahead of O'Ward while former Formula 1 Grand Prix driver Max Chilton was sixth and bottom of the charts, setting just 3 laps.
