Colton Herta returns to the US

Colton Herta will race in America for the first time since 2014 when he races in Indy Lights next year.

The 16-year-old son of race-winning IndyCar driver and team owner Bryan Herta has raced in MSA Formula, BRDC British F3, and Euroformula Open for the last two seasons.

But he will return to his homeland next season after inking a deal with Andretti Autosport and the Steinbrenner family, which owns the New York Yankees baseball team.

"I'm very pleased to be coming back to race in the States," Herta said. "IndyCar is my goal, so competing in Indy Lights this year will bring me one step closer.

"I know I have a good team behind me in Andretti Steinbrenner Racing and we should be fighting for wins right away."

Herta's last US campaign included outings in USF2000 and Red Bull Global Rallycross Lites.
