Grosjean furious with Red Bull, not Gasly

Romain Grosjean has vented his anger at Red Bull rather than his compatriot Pierre Gasly for impeding him during qualifying at Monaco.

Grosjean was blocked towards the conclusion of Q2 by the Red Bull driver at the end of the first sector, and didn't have enough time to get around to start a new lap.

Gasly was subsequently punished with a three-place grid penalty, which will see him start the Grand Prix from eighth on the grid.

"It had big, big consequences for me because I think I could have made it to Q3," Grosjean said. "But I am P13, so I think Red Bull massively fucked up that one. Pierre couldn't do anything.

"We struggled a little bit with the feeling all day long. It wasn't great this morning, I don't think I had quite Kevin's pace but I'm sure it was enough to get into Q3."

Grosjean battled upshift issues

Grosjean revealed that Haas was struggling with upshifts during the session, but believes he still had the pace to make Q3.

"We had issues with the upshifts, I was losing three-tenths at least in a straight line. That lap I was two-tenths up, so you could say there was half a second from my lap was taken off. A 1:11.5 looked good enough to go to Q3."

No consolation in fresh tyres

Grosjean added that there will be no benefit from starting outside the top ten on fresh tyres due to the difficult nature of overtaking around Monaco.

"The only consolation is to think that there could be rain," he said. "In Monaco, P13 with new tyres, you don't give a damn.

"I've swore enough for the day," Grosjean laughed. "I went out of my comfort zone on the radio so I apologise for that. It was a bit of a scary moment for Pierre and for myself."
