Racing Point denies Montoya working as a mental coach for Stroll

Racing Point has denied that former Grand Prix driver Juan Pablo Montoya is working with Lance Stroll as a mental coach.

Several media outlets reported that the Colombian has been coaching Stroll in 2019 as he competes in his first season for Racing Point.

Montoya was present in Barcelona last weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix, with some outlets claiming that he had been spotted with Racing Point, wearing one of their team shirts.

However, GPToday.net was informed by a Racing Point spokesperson that "there is absolutely nothing true about these rumours" that were circulating the Barcelona paddock.

Stroll failed to finish the race last weekend after he made contact with Lando Norris in the second half of the race at Turn 2.

This season, Montoya is racing once more with Roger Penske, having kept a contract with him following the end of his IndyCar career.

Penske has drawn up a 2019 IMSA program for him and semi-retired IndyCar driver Helio Castrovenes in collaboration with Acura, competing in the DPi class.

  • Montoya as a driver... brilliant. No doubt.
But mental coach? Yikes. I can hardly think of someone whose emotions got the better of him more often. He's up there with Pastor Maldonado in terms of recklessness when the red mist descended.

F1 monaco gp winner, two time indy 500 winner, indy car series champion, ROC winner .... The list goes on and on.......
you cant compare Montoya with Maldonado. Montoya is in another level as an all round race driver. Known for his Very agressive mentality.....
Not bad for a coach if you ask me...;)

I think you are right there on that. Aggression makes the difference - when you’re not just tootling around in a silver torpedo. Verstappen for me makes the same parallel. Hammy at McL and early Merc days had that gutsy approach. Maybe we would see it again if he popped over to Ferrari.
