Alain Prost has expressed doubt that Nico Rosberg will ever return to F1 after his retirement at the end of 2016.
Four-time World Champion Prost returned twice to the sport after his 1992 break; firstly in 1993, when he claimed his fourth title, and secondly in 1997, when he bought, ran and renamed the Ligier team after himself. Rosberg retired suddenly in December, days after clinching his maiden title in Abu Dhabi.
Responding to Bild am Sonntag's suggestion that his situation could be similar to Rosberg's, Prost said: "That is something completely different. My retirement in 1993 was final. After 1991 I did not go voluntarily, I just took time out in 1992. But a driver can of course come back to Formula One after his career ends, like Niki Lauda."
Despite this, however, Prost does not believe Rosberg will emulate Lauda in returning to the sport: "He (Rosberg) is quite young to have retired, but the way he did it I find was really good. He was criticised for it, but I thought it was great. I can't imagine him coming back no."
The Frenchman does think Rosberg will have difficulty settling into life after F1, though: "When I saw Ayrton Senna in my car, I had only been a few months out but everything seemed so far away already," he revealed.
When asked if he ever regretted his retirement, Prost replied: "Not at all. But after a few months, I was missing the feeling of having a great goal in mind: testing, training and racing for the world title."
