Brawn expects certain solutions to take time

New Sporting Director of Formula 1 Ross Brawn has said that certain issues within the sport can't be immediately eradicated and will take time.

Brawn, who previously worked at Ferrari, Mercedes and his own team Brawn GP, was brought into the Liberty Media team when the American company completed their takeover of F1 at the start of the year.

With many fans excited by the possible changes that Liberty could bring, Brawn has said that despite some problems being fairly easy to conquer, others are more complicated and will need added time.

“There are some straightforward issues, but the solutions are going to take some time," Brawn said to the BBC. "We want to focus on making the show as good as it can be and the entertainment as good as it can be.

“Every decision will have to tick some boxes and those will be 'does it make sport better? Does it make it more entertaining? Does it make it more economic?'

"You can't change a sport as complex as Formula 1 overnight but the message is that we are fighting to make the sport as entertaining and as viable as we can. I hope with the continued pressure we can apply, we can steer the sport into a better place."

Brawn has spoken briefly about the interest in budget caps, and adding 'quality not quantity' to the Formula 1 calendar.

  • Look term will be the most interesting changes, but I hope they can improve little details such as fan interaction, social media etc.
