Lewis Hamilton was thrilled to finally claim his first pole position at Circuit of the Americas this weekend.
Despite winning at the Austin, Texas venue three times from the previous four visits, Hamilton has never claimed top spot in qualifying until today - the 58th pole position of his career, putting him within seven of Ayrton Senna, second on the all-time list.
"I could hear the crowd cheering when I crossed the line, the energy on that slow-down lap from everyone was much, much appreciated," said Hamilton, who spends a lot of time in the United States between races.
"So I thank them for coming out today and I hope tomorrow we can provide them with a great race," he added.
