Red Bull Ring modified for MotoGP

The Red Bull Ring has been modified prior to MotoGP's upcoming visit to the track.

The premier motorcycle racing championship hasn't visited Austria since 1997, but concerns were raised earlier in the year about the Red Bull Ring, which returned to the Formula One calendar in 2014 after a 10 year absence.

Run off and corner width were amongst the concerns raised by riders, leading to the final turn on the track being made narrower by three metres. The change is said to reduce corner exit speeds.

The Red Bull Ring isn't the first Formula One venue to be modified at the request of motorcycling governing body FIM.

Silverstone's redesign in 2010 was brought about by MotoGP's return to the track while the gravel trap at Parabolica at Monza was changed to tarmac in 2014 with two-wheeled competition in mind.
