Singapore Grand Prix terror plot foiled

The Indonesian police have arrested a number of suspects who were planning an attack during the Singapore Grand Prix.

The suspects, who had links with IS, were reportedly planning a missile attack from the island of Batam, 15 kilometres from the coast of Singapore.

"This shows that our enemies always try to think of other ways to attack us," said Kasi Shanmugam, Minister for Foreign Affairs in Singapore. "Terrorists attempt to evade our control they now plotting to attack from the outside, in addition to the suicide bombings."

"The men on Batam are radicalised on social media via Facebook and not announced by direct contact," a police spokesman told Reuters. "They do not attack, but they discussed it, they have communicated with Bahrum Naima in Syria. He finances resources made available and sent instructions."

Singapore will host the 15th Grand Prix of the season on September 18 and security has been tightened for the event.
