Nico Rosberg Hungary pole "awful" according to Jolyon Palmer

Jolyon Palmer has waded in on the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying controversy by saying the decision to allow Nico Rosberg to keep his pole position was "awful".

Rosberg set a session best sector time on his final qualifying lap, despite double yellow flags being displayed and although he lifted, as is permitted by the rules.

The topic has been hotly discussed in the week since the incident, and now Palmer, who received a grid penalty for a similar infraction in Austria has had his say.

"Awful," Palmer called the decision according to The Daily Mail. "On a damp track, off line, on a blind corner you can have a small lift, do a purple sector and a pole position lap."

"There’s no way that’s safe on double-waved yellow flags when you’ve got to slow down and be prepared to stop apparently. There’s no logic there at all."

Discussing his Austria penalty, Palmer admitted that he didn't lift off, but was aware of the situation and was much slower.

"That was on a straight line in the dry," Palmer explained. "I didn’t lift but was going slower than my previous time, I could see the incident, I could see everything and got a three-place grid drop."

"Rosberg has a very small lift but he still was very quick. On safety grounds it’s not right."
