Reliability gives Renault platform for more power

Now that Renault have found reliability from their RE16 engine, the French marque are looking to close the gap to Ferrari and Mercedes.

Since the introduction of the Hybrid V6 formula in 2014 ,Renault has consistently been at a disadvantage to Mercedes.

Only this year, has the engine appeared to be able to compete with Mercedes. During the Monaco Grand Prix, Renault introduced an upgrade that brought a lot of progress, especially with reliability.

"Silverstone was the fourth race with the new engine specification, and everything worked as desired," Renault Technical director Remi Taffin told ESPN. "We have now reached a point that we can work on little things, improve the driveability and extra power. "

"It was one of our goals this year to have a reliable engine that has good driveability. We have already achieved [reliability], so now we can work together with Enstone on the larger story," he said.
