Rosberg on pole after heavy crash Kvyat

Nico Rosberg grabbed pole position this morning during the qualifying of the Japanese Grand Prix. Daniil Kvyat was the highlight of the session however, with a heavy crash at turn 10. The Russian driver touched the grass, which send his car flying into the tire barrier. Kvyat managed to get out of the car on his own, seemingly without any physical problems.

Because of the crash, the drivers weren't able to put in a second flying lap during Q3. Lewis Hamilton made a mistake during his first run, which might have cost him pole position in the end. The Brit now starts from P2 tomorrow, right in front of Valtteri Bottas and Sebastian Vettel.

Max Verstappen was on his way to Q3 when the battery inside his Toro Rosso failed. A 'sudden loss of power' meant that the young driver stranded at the hairpin and in the first part of the session. The yellow flag that came out for the stopped car prevented two drivers of setting a time. Alexander Rossi will start in 20th, Marcus Ericsson will start - after a high speed spin at Spoon Curve on his first lap - in 19th.
