Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane has provided fresh insight into the battle for Red Bull’s open seats for 2026. With three positions still undecided across Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls, the competition among Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda and Red Bull junior Arvid Lindblad is intensifying.
The Red Bull driver structure remains one of the most closely watched topics in the paddock. Max Verstappen is secure at the top, and Bortoleto is expected to join the programme full-time next year, but the remaining seats are still wide open. As the team prepares for the 2026 regulation changes, long-term planning is underway behind the scenes.
Permane says no final decisions have been made, but confirms that all three drivers are being evaluated on performance, development potential and behaviour within the team environment.
“We Are Looking at All Three Very Closely”
Speaking to Viaplay, Permane stressed that every candidate is still in contention. “We are looking at all three very closely. There are seats available at both teams, and every driver knows what is expected of him. Nothing has been decided yet.”
Lawson has impressed as Verstappen’s current teammate, while Tsunoda has shown strong flashes of speed despite inconsistent results. Lindblad, meanwhile, is still in his early development phase but is highly rated internally.
Permane emphasised that Red Bull is not in a rush. “There is still time. The most important thing is to choose the drivers who fit the long-term vision for both teams.”
Lawson vs Tsunoda: No Favourite Yet
The team boss rejected suggestions that Lawson is already guaranteed a seat. “Liam is doing a very good job, but Yuki has had strong performances too. They are very different drivers, and that is exactly why we are evaluating them carefully.”
Tsunoda has expressed his desire to remain within the Red Bull family, but the fierce competition means nothing is guaranteed. “Yuki knows what he must deliver. He has grown a lot as a driver, but consistency is key in Formula 1,” Permane said.
Lindblad Being Groomed for the Future
Permane also spoke about Lindblad’s development. “Arvid is a long-term project, but a very exciting one. He shows tremendous potential. We are not ruling anything out for the future.”
Although it is unlikely the youngster will step into a Formula 1 seat immediately, his presence adds pressure on the existing drivers to perform.
Decisions Expected in 2025
Permane hinted that clarity will come next season. “We will take our time, but of course the drivers want to know where they stand. I expect things to become clearer during 2025 once we have a full picture.”
With three seats still open and the 2026 regulation overhaul looming, the battle inside the Red Bull camp is only just heating up. For Lawson, Tsunoda and Lindblad, every session now counts.
