New York and Las Vegas eligible for Grand Prix

The list of tracks that are eligible for a Formula 1 race in the US has been released and it contains two cities - New York and Las Vegas. Auto Motor und Sport reports that the two cities are heavily interested in welcoming Formula 1 by adding themselves to the calendar. If races were to be confirmed at these locations, they would be street races.

Since Liberty Media's takeover of the sport back in January, CEO Chase Carey has vocally expressed his desire for F1 to have a bigger and better recognition in the US. F1 already has a race there, with the event hosted at the popular Circuit of the Americas. It has held a Grand Prix every year since 2012 but has been won by only Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton

Formula 1 has had other races in the US too, at tracks such as Indianapolis, Phoenix, Sebring and Watkins Glen. The longest stint for any track from the US to feature on the calendar was Watkins Glen. It hosted a race from 1961 to 1980.

Some of Las Vegas' circuit plans have been revealed, with it containing the famous 'Strip' part of the city. There are also suggestions that New Jersey could enter the race for a Grand Prix, using Manhattan as a backdrop. Nevertheless, New York and Las Vegas are now envisaged.
